Chests of drawers came about primarily for the purpose of storing clothes and linens.

To this day, they continue to function as storage not only for clothes and linens, but for just about anything that can fit into them to make one’s surroundings neat and orderly.

Chests of drawers have grown and developed into various styles and sizes to suit the needs of their patrons. In all likelihood, the most versatile of these is the low chest of drawers. There are no prescribed exact measurements for it to qualify as low, but it is common knowledge that a low chest of drawers is normally waist-high or lower.

Because of its size, it can be conveniently moved from one living space to another and can be readily reached by anybody, tall or short.

Low Chest of Drawers - Great Versatility

The versatility of a low chest of drawers can be clearly demonstrated in the following examples:

  • In the bedroom, a short, low chest with a couple of drawers can double as a bedside table. A night lamp, a telephone or cellphone, and/or an alarm clock can be arranged on top of the chest for easy access while the drawers can be used to keep your favorite books or magazines, tissue paper, and other personal items

  • In a child’s room, a low chest of drawers can come in handy as a storage for the child’s toys and game paraphernalia to make the room look neater. Because the chest is low and accessible to the child, the child gets the opportunity to learn to put his things in order by keeping them inside the chest after use.

  • In the living room, a hip-high chest of drawers can serve as a corner or end table, on top of which can be displayed small decorative items like vases or figurines. At the same time, the drawers can function as storage for coasters or decks of cards.

  • A strong, wide low chest of drawers is an ideal TV stand while the drawers are a conducive storage for remote controls, CDs, and other TV articles.

  • As a sideboard, a long, low chest of drawers is useful when storing kitchen linens and tableware while its top can be used for setting napkins and glasses during buffet dinners.

  • In a room that is rarely used, hobby supplies such as sewing materials, rolls of ribbons, and glue guns can be kept safely, away from the reach of children.

  • A pair of low chest drawers joined together in the middle with a life-size mirror can be a perfect dressing table and a storage for make-up kits and other cosmetic items.

  • A very low chest of drawers made of sturdy material can be used alternatively as a place to sit on.
